Your Body’s Natural Intelligence

The explorative movement sequences in this course help awaken your body’s natural intelligence, support your nervous system regulation and your capacity for sensing, organizing, and moving with greater clarity and flow. You’ll learn how to move with more ease, softness, and connection to your self, while cultivating a deeper sense of embodiment, grounding, and trust in your own body.

Ease of Movement

Somatic Embodied Movement promotes ease of movement in general. In this course we will also focus on walking, one of or most important daily activities, how you can improve your walking, and benefit more from it. This is especially useful if you have issues with walking or movement in general. If you are a runner you will find this course useful as well.

“This course on walking delivered what it promised. Through exercises and some basic principles, I quickly noticed a change in the way I walked, and it felt easier to walk. Especially on stairs and uphill, there was a noticeable difference. I now notice that I walk faster than I did before. It was an interesting course with a lot of new knowledge, highly recommended!”

Best regards,

Gunnhild

Former Participant

Unlike other courses in somatic movement, this course includes TRE and neurogenic tremoring, and is most relevant for participants with experience with TRE, who want to explore further.

“Before the course, I wasn’t able to lift myself from a lying position. Now I can. Thank you for the great help in realizing that the weight of the body can assist me in getting up and down from the floor correctly.”

“I’m really glad I signed up for and completed the walking course led by Hans. Already after the first evening, I noticed a positive change in the way I walk. By applying the simple principles Hans taught us, I’ve experienced steady progress. Pain has decreased or disappeared altogether, and my running form has also improved. The atmosphere during the course was great—overall, a very enjoyable experience.”

Experiences from a group of participants with MS

“I’ve become much more aware of what I do when I walk—the whole process involving body weight, hips, knees, feet, and toes. Walking has become easier.”

“I’ve gained better balance and can walk better without a crutch.”

“I walk more confidently, and it feels better. I’ve found contact with the ground through my feet and can stand with my eyes closed—something I haven’t been able to do for years. I’m more aware of how I move and feel more in touch with my body.”

“I’ve been riding once a week since the end of January. I’ve never been able to lift my right leg over the horse and always needed help to get it over the saddle so I could sit properly. In the last riding lesson, just before the course ended, I managed to lift my leg over by myself. Suddenly, I was sitting in the saddle and was very surprised!”

Why Somatic Embodied Movement in TRE®?

Trauma and ingrained patters of tension, freeze and flight fight activation, and bodily patterns created by unresolved developmental stress make it difficult to sense parts of the body clearly, and to see the habitual patterns we carry with us.

Explorative somatic movement help increase our ability to feel and sense ourself,  to see our patterns, and further release them as part of our TRE practice. This can help to:

  • Enhance the nervous system’s ability to regulate itself
  • Increase body awareness and support the natural tremoring process
  • Deepen grounding and embodied presence before and after sessions
  • Reduce pain, stiffness, and habitual tension
  • Improve coordination, balance, and confidence in everyday movement
  • Support integration and emotional regulation after release

Movement for Everyday Life: Walking, Balance, and Ease

In addition to supporting TRE® sessions and the release process, the movement explorations we focus on in this course focuses on the practical movement we do in daily life, specifically related to balance and walking. Balance is key to our sense of embodied safety, and walking is our most used, health supporting activity. By participating in this course you will learn to:

  • Walk with more balance, lightness and flow.
  • Increase your sense of safety and confidence while walking.
  • Walk up and down stairs with more efficiency and sense of safety.
  • Increase your awareness of your body and space during everyday movements.
  • Reconnect with a natural sense of movement efficiency and comfort.

This course helps you walk the way your body is naturally meant to walk, by tapping into the body’s inherent intelligence, using dynamic balance, body weight and the body’s “inverted pendulum” properties to make walking feel easy and efficient. This natural way of walking can be lost for many different reasons—such as injuries, prolonged sitting, poor footwear, misguided ideas about walking, aesthetic ideals, and more. In this course, you will learn how to rediscover your natural and effortless gait, based on your body’s innate intelligence.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for anyone with experience in TRE®, whether for personal practice or professional use. It offers a gentle yet powerful way to reconnect with your body, improve your quality of movement, and support healing and self-regulation at every stage of the TRE® process.

Inspired by the Feldenkrais method of Somatic Education

This course draws inspiration in particular from the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Educaiton and its “Awareness Through Movement” (ATM) lessons. I am a certified Feldenkrais method teacher, who have specilized in using the Feldenkrais method in the context of trauma, trauma therapy, integrating with SE and TRE, as well as to improve walking, running and other atlethic movement, like telemark and alpine skiing, skating, swimming etc.

Empirical Support for Somatic Embodied Practices

Several studies and reviews on mindful, meditative movement, somatic practices and the Feldenkrais method highlight their potential to improve both mental and physical functioning. These approaches have been associated with positive effects on depression, anxiety, trauma symptoms, pain relief, and overall quality of life. These practices also promote physical benefits such as improved balance, posture, and movement, along with mental enhancements like increased focus and reduced stress.

By combining TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) with mind-body awareness and mindful movement, this course aims to enhance the benefits of TRE, supporting deeper healing, repair, and well-being.

Recordings

This course will be recorded. The recordings will be made available for participants of the course and will also be made available for sale for others afterward. As a participant you need to accept that the course will be recorded and used for this purpose after the course.

Connect and share

The purpose of these sessions are also to connect with others who practice TRE® to share experiences, ask questions, support and learn from each other.

I became actively involved in self-development as a student in my early 20’s and have been focused on learning, self-development and change processes, body-oriented methods, communication, conflict resolution, parenting, trauma therapy, Integral theory and various sports activities like barefoot running, total immersion swimming, skiing, self-defense, Aikido, Krav Maga etc.

I have trained in and are a practitioner of several practices, the Feldenkrais Method, Communicology, the Sounder Sleep System, Somatic Experiencing (SE), and am also certified as a Trainer in Trauma Release Exercises (TRE).

After completing a major in pedagogy, and also worked at the Police College in Oslo, where I taught psychology with an emphasis on stress management and conflict resolution. I have been teaching courses, trainings, and counseling in private practice since 2006.

In my private practice, I work with councelling and courses for parents, trainings for staff in kindergartens and schools, with body-oriented trauma therapy, and body oriented learning and development processes.

I have also developed several practical models for self-development and developmentally supportive conflict resolution, among them the PLS (Positive Learning Spirals) regulation support model, a practically oriented method for development-supportive communication and conflict resolution in relationships with children.
