These resources are designed to support your journey in body-oriented self-development, trauma healing, relational growth, communication and conflict resolution. They are also valuable tools for addressing issues related to relational stress and trauma, aggression, and co-regulation challenges.

I am Hans Holter Solhjell, the developer of the Response Funnel and the PLS Framework and its broad set of systemic and skill based practical educational models. As a visitor on this page, you might know me as a body-oriented trauma-therapist, TRE trainer and as the developer of The Response Funnel Model. This is one pillar of my work.

Another pillar is the PLS framework, developed over 20 years as a parent, parenting coach and conflict resolution trainer for kindergartens and schools. This part of my work is presented on the Famlab website, where you will find all the information about the PLS Certification Training.

The models on this page are inspired by and based on 30 years of interest in research, theories, practical methods and work in fields such as stress, trauma, child-development, parenting, communication, conflict resolution, crisis management, self-development, embodiment, therapy, martial arts and self-defense. As well as systems theory, integral philosophy, education, educational design etc.

The PLS Model

Authoritative Leadership, Limit setting, Conflict Resolution, Perspective Taking, Emotional Support and Cooperation

The PLS model is designed to support parents and educators in fostering healthy child development, with a special focus on the practice of Authoritative Leadership in both everyday situations as well as the more, and even most, challenging situations, involving intense conflict, aggression etc. With the aim of supporting parents and educators in navigating such situations in a developmentally supportive way, reducing conflict and stress, and increasing relational harmony, joy and learning.
This model empowers adults to navigate conflicts constructively, supporting children’s emotional, social and behavioural regulation—key elements for nurturing children’s growth and well-being.
The PLS model is the foundational and original model in the PLS framework, and essential for those committed to guiding children toward positive, lifelong skills and resilience. Read more ⤵

The PLS Authoritative Leadership Model, builds and expands on the science of parenting styles to organize and highlight the key skills and attitudes essential for developing and sustaining an Authoritative relational style.
By its organization of the skills and attitudes of the Authoritative style in a three part structure it both clarifies the attitudes and skills of this style, as well as the distinctions between an Authoritative style characterized by both structure and warmth, and the authoritarian style emphasizing control devoid of warmth, and the avoidant style abundant in warmth but lacking structure. The PLS Learning Culture Ladder

Partner, Team and Organizational Development to Support Collaboration, Resilience and Authoritative Leadership

The PLS Learning Culture Ladder is a team and organizational development model designed to assess and enhance collaboration, partner and team based resilience and authoritative leadership in everyday situations with children, in families and educational settings, as well as in response to challenges, conflicts that escalate, disruptive or aggressive behaviors, bullying etc.
The model is created initially for use in kindergartens and schools but can also be used for other types of organizations and even families, couples etc.
The model describes levels of collaborative and learning focused culture within teams and organizations. It can be used as a reflection tool to assess where your team currently stands. The goal is to provide a structured overview that supports processes aimed at strengthening collaboration, leadership, and learning environments. Read more ⤵

The Response Funnel Model provides an overview of a wide range of ways we respond to challenges, conflict, crisis and stress.
The model was originally developed in the context of caregiver-child relationships and developmentally supportive conflict resolution, in families, kindergartens and schools, but is equally useful in trauma informed work, trauma therapy, personal capacity development etc. Read more ⤵

The Response Funnel Physiology

The Physiology of Stress, Trauma, Repair, Adaptive Growth and Capacity

It provides an overview of the physiological, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes that underlie allodynamic balance and our integrated Mind-Body-Social-Cultural Capacity to adapt to, recover from, and learn from internal and external stressors, maintaining and enhancing our functioning and ability to thrive.
The model focuses on the role of the brain, autonomic nervous system (PNS, SNS, vagus pathways), and HPA axis in regulating our responses to internal and external events. Read more ⤵

About the PLS Framework and Response Funnel Framework

The PLS Framework (Positive Learning Spirals) is a practical, structured approach to regulation challenges, including auto-regulation, self-regulation, co-regulation as well as regulation-support.

The PLS framework, developed by Hans Holter Solhjel, has two main branches. The first branch is focused on the support of children’s development, parents and those who work with children in schools and kindergartens. The main models developed in this branch are the PLS model (5 phase model of autoritative parenting) , the Perspective Spiral, the PLS authoritative leadership model, the PLS learning culture ladder, the regulation support circles model etc.

This part of the PLS framework has been used for over 15 years in kindergartens, schools, and families in Norway. This part of my work is presented on the Famlab website, where you will find all the information about the PLS Certification Training.

The second branch is focused on the individual, trauma healing, self-development, auto-, self-, and co-regulation capacity development. This is the domain of The Response Funnel Framework and its variations. You can read more about The Response Funnel Model on this page.
